At the heart of this renovation is a new extension defined by deliberate contrast with the existing house: where the original follows a regular geometry, the extension takes on a distinct form shaped by the site's irregular boundaries.
Conceived as a timber-frame structure to allow the client an active role in construction, the design foregrounds rather than conceals this technique: an exposed timber ceiling and visible structural beams form part of the interior finish, lending warmth and a domestic character.
Windows and rooflights bring daylight deep into old and new alike, while large sliding doors and a continuous concrete floor tie the extension to the garden.
Internally, the extension reorganizes the house's layout into a clearer hierarchy, balancing openness and intimacy across distinct zones within an open-plan arrangement.
